Open Question: Teachers riding motorcycles to school?
I just bought my first bike. I am a permanent substitute for an urban school district, and would never dream of leaving my bike out in that parking lot (would get stolen in a minute). However, this summer I am tutoring at a summer camp run by the college where I'm getting my masters (tutoring at the camp is part of my class requirement). Would it be inappropriate for me to ride there? Its about a half hour drive, so that's one full hour four days a week... I could save massively on gas, and get good use out of my bike. I plan on wearing on all of my gear all the time, but I'm worried that parents might not like it if their kid's teacher is some biker babe (although it will be in an area where riding is pretty popular... lots of bikes out on the road).

Open Question: out break movie question?
Um, i watched a movie not too long ago and i was wondering what it was called wanted to watch it again. In the movie they gear up a team and send them in to a like post apocalyptic world. Only twist about it tho is that world has been sealed off by a giant gate around i think it was England. The group they send in are looking for some thing and they start off inside tank. But then get ambushed by the crazy people inside of the gate. The people where like old school 90 bikers and cannibal's. They start to eat off the crew till just a woman is left and she ends up being the main char. She escapes and bails out on a train then they go to like this old school renaissance type area. She then has to fight this really big guy ends up killing him and taking the book she was after. Ugh i know i didn't leave much to work with on this topic but if any one could help me find the name of the movie id be grateful i wanna see it again =x.
ty saskai that was the movie =x wish i knew how to turn the question from opened to closed

Resolved Question: A Motorcyclist fell behind my car and now I am getting sued?
I was turning left and never saw the motorcyclist. Behind me I see the person lose control of the bike. There were witnesses at the scene saying that it was not my fault. They also said the motorcyclist smelled of alcohol. I never was cited by the police. The police apologized to me and said we have to say you failed to yield because he had the right away, but you can leave now. Even though, he was speeding and never in my vision until he was behind me. The cops never requested a blood alcohol test and now its all he said she said. His friend took the bike at the scene, so they said they can't test and prove he was in 4th gear at the time of the accident.
There was no contact between the biker and I. He had no insurance. As of now, I know his bills are almost to the policy's 100k limit. I was driving my parent's car and under their insurance.
Can he sue for more than the policy? Does he sue my parents? They are senior citizens with only their retirement left living on social security. Can he go after their assets since it was their car? I have no assets and a large student loan bill.
What can I do to protect my parents?

Resolved Question: Shimano FD-M661 compatible with my Canondale SL5?
Hi to all:
I have a Canondale hardtail SL5 29er bike completely stock. Whenever going to very muddy terrain the chain seems to get tangled very easily when trying to go uphill. This does not seem to happen to the other bikers, maybe because they have better components than the ones in my bike. I try to clean the mud and stones and debris but it still does it for about an hour after the mud, especially at the smallest front plate. If I use the medium plate that won’t happen, but some steep hills require to use the smallest plate meaning that it is a pain no to use all gears while trying not to brake the chain.
I went to the LBS where I bought the bike and the mechanic told me to get a better quality front derailleur. He said to buy the Shimano SLX FD-M661 with a 34.9 diameter. He told me that the way it was built it is stiffer and less prone to that failure.
My bike comes with Shimano rapid fire shifters, I believe they are Acera. What I do not get is that the SLX front derailleur says it is for a 9 speed bike and mine has 8 speeds in the back. Will it work with my bike and get rid of the one hour no steep hill climbing?
Thanks a bunch!

Resolved Question: How 'bout them Ducati bikes?
I used to ride a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R600 until I totalled it in 2010 in a 55-MPH accident; I bounced off the side of an SUV moving in the opposite direction; I must have used one of my cat's 9 lives because I literally walked away with just two rug-burn-type scratches; I wore my gear that day, as usual; and the two scratches were due to heat friction between my skin and the gear's textile material.
Fast forward to present day 2012: I'm contemplating on getting back on, so I've been looking at different types of bikes and different models/makes. I still want the agility a street bike offers, but also a comfort a cruiser offers. Someone suggested a cross in between, such as a touring bike or streetfighter. The same person suggested looking into a Ducati; so I did...
I sat on a 2012 Ducati Monster 696 and it felt low enough and comfy enough (I'm 5ft 6in); kinda reminded me of my Gixxer. But when I did research of the Ducati's specs, it's not really comparable to the Gixxer. The overall rating in all aspects of the Gixxer surpasses the Ducati Monster.
However, having survived an accident where, according to the EMTs and police officer, I should have been killed, I wouldn't mind a biker with lesser performance.
Problem is I'm not very familiar with Ducati; and I've read on another message board (a Gixxer-owners board) that Ducatis are literally high maintenance, high repair costs, spending more time in a repair shop than on the streets.
Based on what I've disclosed to you readers so far, I'm asking for advice, insights, suggestions. Thanks in advvance.
Bikerpilotdanny.
Now that some of you have contributed to this post, allow me to address one of the comments: “You didn't have the skills to handle your GSXR, you still don't have the skills for the 696.” I beg to differ; I found a comparison between my ’07 GSX-R600 and the ’12 Ducati Monster 696 (http://www.bikez.com/bike/rating.php?idbike=24305); use this URL, go to the bottom of the webpage, select “2012 Ducati Monster 696” and you’ll find that the GSX-R600 outpaces the Monster in every aspect. So in a way, I’m looking for a bike with lower performances.
Granted I don’t have pro-like riding skills, I consider myself a conscientious and careful rider. I’d even taken the advance rider course with the GSX-R600 to ensure I can handle the bike. The circumstances that propelled me into the accident (no pun intended) were unique – momentary lack of speed control during a ½-circle turn.
I was excited about the dual-sport type bikes like the Suzuki VStrom, so I set out to find one; sat on a VStrom

Resolved Question: Mountain bike question, what will I have to replace? 10 points for thoroughness?
Long story short, I bought the lowest tier of a Haro 29er about a month ago. Being a broke college student, that's what I could afford at the time. Now, things are starting to wear out already and bend. I've replaced the fork from some suntour contraption to a rockshox tora among some other small changes.
Now what I want to do is replace the crankset because it is continually getting bent and is not a strong enough part for my bike. I'm thinking about replacing the cassette too, as some of the gears skip, which is driving me crazy when it comes to climbing, I've crashed twice now and almost killed myself the other day just riding to class. It is currently a 24 speed shimano set up.
Basically, what am I looking at replacing here? If I want to get a new crankset and or cassette, does that mean replacing the shifters and front derailleur too? Ahhhh this has turned into a nightmare, hopefully someone out there knows their stuff, cause I sure don't.
Like I said, 10 points for you if you help a brother out. Thanks ahead of time.
Sincerely,
A bummed out mountain biker

Resolved Question: Anything and everything about BMX?
I pretty much need to know everything. What are the best bikes, best gear (as in shoes, etc.), what are the competitions called, what are all the tricks (from beginner, intermediate, and pro), are there any slang words, what do you call all the different levels (are you actually considered professional or minor league or whatever), who are the most famous bikers, what are the prices for all the equipment, and just pretty much everything.
I know I'm asking for a lot so sorry for that, but it would be awesome if you could answer as many questions or just send me links to some bmx sites.
Thanks!
I already tried google but I kept getting conflicting info. I don't want an enclyclopedia giving me false facts, but an actual biker who knows about this kind of stuff
